At 8am on Wednesday 16th November, the Let’s Talk Sport team (Jack Price, Dan Middleton & Jamie Davies) began the mammoth task of broadcasting a 56 hour radio show as they set out to fundraise for BBC Children in Need’s 2016 Appeal.

The show ended at 4pm today in high spirits as the team took a look back at the show. Over the 56 hours, guests included local charities that benefit from Children in Need funding. Staff from Home Start, Your Space, Meningitis Now, Nightingale House Hospice, Groundwork North Wales and Family Friends joined them in the studio and it was great to hear about all of the amazing work these charities do in the Wrexham area and the difference that the Children in Need appeal makes in our community.

On Wednesday and Thursday evening, the show featured live music from Heal The Last Stand, Portlights, Alx Green, The Glendale Family, Miracle Glass Company and Baby Brave.

Other guests included personal trainers from Fitcamp Wrexham, who kept the team on their toes with a 6.30am workout on Thursday morning, The Vic studios, Wrexham Glyndwr University William Aston Hall, Wrexham AFC, Wrexham Tennis Centre, Hoola Nation, Giggles and Games and many more.

They were also joined throughout the show by fellow Calon FM volunteers, which proved to be a great boost, particularly ‘What The Nerd Heard’ presenter, James Wright, who kept them company for an impressive 16 hours.

The show has received a fantastic response from the community, from popping in to interview the guys live on air, to features from The Leader, Egwyl Magazine and BBC Radio Wales as well as encouraging messages from listeners.

As of 4pm on Friday 18th, the team has raised £1,367.34 for Children in Need. The JustGiving page will remain open following the show for continued donations. A bake sale and raffle also took place at Glyndwr University as part of the fundraising efforts.

After the show, Katherine Wade, Station Editor said: “We’re so proud of Jack, Dan and Jamie and what they’ve achieved. They’ve shown real determination and team spirit, supporting each other throughout the whole show. The atmosphere in the studio has been fantastic, even in the early hours of the morning! To go from doing a 2 hour weekly show, to broadcasting for 56 hours non stop is a real feat of broadcasting”

Jack, Jamie & Dan said after the show “Its been a challenging 56 hours but to do it with close friends has made it a really special experience. The support has been exceptional. We have no idea how we’ve done it, but we have and it’s been so rewarding. The guests have kept us going throughout the show and a special thanks to James Wright for helping us out in the final hours and to Katherine and Amy for making it possible”

Day 2 and the second overnight stint is complete and we’re into the final stretch! The guys are ready for a packed final day of the marathon show. For Day 1 & 2 highlights click here

Money raised will go on to support disadvantaged children and young people all across the UK.

From 8am on Wednesday 16th through to 4pm on Friday 18th November, Jack, Dan, Jamie & Harry will stay awake and on air for 56 straight hours. Of course, they can’t do this alone, so they’ll be joined by a wide range of guests.
