About the show
After meeting on Calon FM’s ‘Introduction to Radio’ course, presenters Doug Forbes, Kim Disley & Steve Breeze got together to form “Kick Start the Weekend” or Kick Start as it has now become known.
In between the great music, banter and giving information on local event, the show features the Quiz and “Calon Rewind”. Rewind is a half hour dedicated to a bygone year, with Top 40 tunes and titbits of information to help you guess correctly.
The Quiz has a different quiz master each week, Doug, Kim or Steve, each with their own style but no matter how difficult or easy the questions Steve usually manages to run away into the lead!
About the presenters
Doug is one of the presenters of Saturday’s morning ”kick Start” show. Having spent all his life in Aldershot he moved to Wrexham with his wife Jo in 2002. Having spent many years as a resident DJ in nightclubs, and presenting a Soul show on hospital radio he was delighted to get involved with Calon FM in 2009. He believes his passion for music started at a young impressionable age, when in the 1970’s his sister & brother who are 10 & 8 years older would bring home a variety of the latest 7″ singles, and this probably explains his extremely wide range in musical tastes. When not presenting on Calon, Doug works as the Operations Manager for The Nuts Poker League based in Wrexham.
Kim presents Kick Start on Saturday mornings from 10am-12 with Steve Breeze and Doug Forbes. She fights hard to get a selection of rock music among all the 80’s and Soul music that the lads insist on playing! When not in the Calon FM studio Kim nips into another kind of studio as an Applied Arts student, specialising in glass at Glyndwr University
I first got involved with Calon FM after being told about the Introduction to Radio course. It was here I met my fellow presenters Kim and Doug and we somehow came up with the Kick Start show.Once I got over the nerves and how much actually goes into presenting a show, I really started having fun. When I’m not playing DJ on Calon FM you will see me on the streets of Wrexham with some fairly nervous looking people, as I’m a driving instructor.
