Jamie is one of Wales longest serving DJs, he has in one way or another been involved in the Dance Music scene for over 20 years, and with “Future Fresh” continuing to grow and grow since its beginnings in 2010 and with regular DJ bookings up and down the country, he is still going strong within the scene today..
Jamie became aware of the underground dance music in his early teens due to a radio show called “New Dawn” broadcast on “Key 103” very late on Sunday evenings, he was immediately hooked on the electronic sounds and deep rolling basses that he was hearing through his Walkman, even then Jamie would record the shows on a cassette recorder and try to mix them and take the recordings to school to share with his friends, his family and friends say even back then he was obsessed with these new and unusual sounds which he had never heard before, and most say he still is today.
After he had left school and started at college he became a regular on the rave scene and travelled every weekend to different clubs and events throughout the country, some of his favourites at the time were “Kinetic” in Stoke and “The Technodrome” in Birkenhead.
It was through the parties, the travelling and all the friendly people he had met, that he decided that this was what he wanted to be part of, so he promptly purchased his first turntables and mixer, and within 12 months he was playing at small clubs, private parties and he was even a regular at the free outdoor parties which were happening all over Wales at the time..
At the age of 22, Jamie took his passion for music to another level when he opened Wrexham 1st Dance Music Specialists called “Vinyl Asylum” which traded for 5 years, this was the only place for miles that you could buy the latest vinyl’s plus all the equipment like turntables and mixers, basically all that you needed to become a DJ, as well as giving new DJs a platform to perform by putting on new events in the town, with weekly events at Yale’s, The Cosmopolitan and he also had a residency at “Rebellion” in Rhyl.
Since then Jamie has played at numerous clubs and festivals throughout the U.K and Europe, these include Hysteria @ Gatecrasher in Sheffield, Rebellion Tour @ Kinetic and North @ The Void both in Stoke, The Warehouse in Leeds, The Workhouse Project in Mid Wales and many more, plus around Europe he has played in events in Spain, Italy and Cyprus, he has even successfully toured Portugal and played at the famous “La Lux” club in Lisbon, and was a headliner at the huge outdoor festival called “The Boomfest”
In the last few years he has started his own promotions company called “Saviour Promotions” which has already been involved with the organisation and delivery of some of the area’s biggest charity music events, events such as the massive Oxjam 2010 at Chester City Racecourse which had over 2000 people attend, Oxjam Wrexham in 2011 plus “Wrexham Refugee Week” and the “Help For Heroes” fundraiser at Wrexham Football Stadium.
Regarding his career and the radio show Jamie says “It’s been a kind of natural progression for me, from bringing the people of Wrexham and N.Wales the best tunes on vinyl when I had my shop all those years ago, to dropping the newest tracks in raves and festivals and now I’m kind of doing the same thing with Future Fresh, and to think now im able to reach a worldwide audience through Calon FM, it’s amazing, its madness, but I genuinely love it”
Because of the show’s success Jamie has been able to bring his listeners some UK & World exclusives from some of the best Producers of the moment and recently showcased The World Renowned “Bassanova” with his UK Debut Guest Mix plus exclusive airplay of his latest tracks, but Jamie is quick to state that he “also supports the best local DJs/Producers too” and he cannot wait to keep bringing you more, much more in the coming years.
